A SUMMER SONNET written by Miquette
If teaching is one of my favorite things to do and the beach is one of my favorite places to be at; why not mix them both? I thought.
And as I am still inspired by the romance I find in the ending of the “not so romantic for me” month of love AKA February, I thought about writing some poetry myself. So here is a sonnet I forced myself to write, right now, just for you, which I really hope you like.
As I walk towards the Ocean’s shore, the bliss
that time does not fly like the seagulls do
where life seems easier than it really is
where I can find myself at peace anew.
The sun as usual fits inside its mold
as I once more approach The Ocean’s shore;
no matter sandy, rocky, warm or cold –
the place where I belong, where less is more.
As long as Quiet walks along the place
I’m feeling lighter than a feather shelf;
a bit of peace and calm invades the space
at the only place where I can find myself
within the soothing sound of the Ocean ways –
no longer needed to unwind my days.
So….what do you think about my sonnet? Would you like to try writing some poetry yourself? (Please leave your comments below.)
I am leaving here a video lesson I made while I was enjoying myself at the beach. It is for beginners, real beginners. But everybody is welcome to watch!
Life by the sea is
as easy as this lesson;
a wonderful thing!
Oh! How much I love the sea!
It always rocks me to sleep!
What I tried to write in the lines above is a type of Japanese short poem called Tanka. Why don’t you try writing one! I bet you can do it better than me.
Just write 5 lines – no rhyme. Lines 1 and 3 should have 5 syllables; lines 2,4 and 5 should have 7 syllables.
Go ahead! Share your Tanka in the comments section of this post.
